Football championship season is upon Colorado as the state’s four smallest classifications play their title games on Saturday. Here’s a preview:

Class 2A

The Tigers (12-0) eye their second championship in the past three seasons, and the Tri-Peaks League champions boast the classification’s most dangerous dual-threat quarterback in senior Jon Nuschy, who is second in Class 2A with 1,666 yards rushing. The Broncos (12-0), meanwhile, are led by senior quarterback Trevon Wehrman and junior defensive back Josh Yancey.

Class 1A

The Badgers (12-0) own the most football state titles of any school in the entire state, but the last of their 16 championships came back in 2005. Limon will look to sophomore tailback Kory Tacha (20 TDs) to complete the perfect season, while the Indians (11-1) are led by senior linebacker Wyatt Warren in pursuit of Strasburg’s third title in four years.

8-man

The Cougars (10-1) stomped Merino 32-0 in the semifinals, a rematch from their lone loss of the regular season. That indicates junior linebacker Dalton Carlson and the Sedgwick County defense are gelling at the perfect time heading into the showdown against the Farmers (11-1), who are paced by senior tailback Trysten Moltrer (1,342 yards, 21 touchdowns).

6-man

The Knighted Eagles (11-1) fell to Kit Carson 28-22 on Oct. 26, and senior quarterback Tyson Lichty and sophomore tailback Jaret Lichty will be key in the rematch. The Wildcats (11-0) have never won a title and are paced by senior quarterback T.J. Conaway and junior defensive end Cordell Farmer, who’s averaging 10.7 tackles per game.
