UNITED ADDS NEW NONSTOP FLIGHT TO GERMANY FROM DIA

- — Denver Post staff report

The latest nonstop flight between Denver International Airport and a European hub was announced Thursday.

United Airlines will operate a year-round flight to Frankfurt beginning May 2 next year. United joins Lufthansa in providing nonstop service to the German city from DIA. Frankfurt will rank as Denver’s third-largest market in Europe, according to a news release from DIA.

With the new flight, Denver will have 50 weekly nonstop routes to Europe during the summer of 2019, a 13 percent increase over the summer of 2018.

“We are appreciative to have such a great partnership with United Airlines and that they continue to grow and invest in Denver with the addition of this new transatlantic service next summer,” DIA’s CEO, Kim Day, said in the news release.

Demand for travel between Europe and Denver grew by 20 percent in the past year, more than double the U.S. average, Day said.

The new United flight will be served by a Boeing 787-8 with 219 seats, the same aircraft that United flies to Tokyo and London.

DIA, the fifth-busiest airport in the U.S., is served by 24 airlines, including 11 foreign-flag carriers. These airlines provide service to 26 international destinations in 12 countries, and 184 domestic destinations in 46 states. That’s a total of 210 nonstop destinations.
