POLICE: WYOMING TACKLE TRAPPED HOTEL WORKER

» A police report alleges

L ARAMI E , WY O . that suspended University of Wyoming defensive tackle Youhanna Ghaifan tried to kiss a hotel employee after trapping her against a wall inside a Colorado hotel room.

The team was staying at the Fort Collins Marriott before their game against Colorado State on Oct. 26.

According to the report, the woman told police that he closed the door to the room she was cleaning and asked “if she wanted to have some fun.”

Ghaifan did not play in the game and was suspended indefinite­ly. He was charged with misdemeano­r counts of false imprisonme­nt and harassment.

The Fort Collins Police Department released the report after the Casper Star-Tribune submitted a records request.

Ghaifan did not immediatel­y respond Thursday to the newspaper’s message seeking comment.

Reed, Cantlay lead as Tiger triples his way to bottom.

AS» Tiger Woods’ return to tournament M competitio­n didn’t start nearly as well as his last one ended.

Woods had a chip roll back into the hazard for a triple bogey Thursday, leading to a 1-over 73 that left him eight shots behind world-traveling Patrick Reed and late-entry Patrick Cantlay in the Hero World Challenge.

Reed didn’t show any sign of fatigue in his travels from Dubai to Hong Kong to the Bahamas in successive weeks. He birdied three of his last five holes for a 7-under 65. Cantlay, added to the field when Webb Simpson withdrew, birdied five of his last six holes for a 65.

Ex-Buffalo QB Jim Kelly gives thumbs-up after cancer surgery.

» The wife of Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame quarterbac­k Jim Kelly says her husband has undergone what is hoped to be his last cancer-related surgery.

On Instagram Wednesday, Jill Kelly posted a picture of the ex-football player giving a thumbs-up sign from a hospital bed in New York City. Her comment said “all went as planned!”

Kelly last underwent surgery in March when doctors a removed cancer from is upper jaw and lymph nodes and reconstruc­ted his upper jaw.

» Katie Ledecky won the 400-meter freestyle Thursday night for second title in two days at the USA Swimming Winter National Championsh­ips, and fellow Olympic champions Simone Manuel and Nathan Adrian took the 50 freestyles.

Ledecky, who won gold medals in the 400 and 800 freestyle events at the 2016 Olympics and took the 800 to open the meet Wednesday, breezed in the 400, finishing in 4 minutes, 35 seconds to win by more than nine seconds.

Texas Tech hires Wells after success at alma mater Utah St.

Matt Wells as its new football coach Thursday night after he was part of an impressive turnaround at Utah State, his alma mater.

Wells had a 44-34 record in six seasons as coach of the Aggies, who are 10-2 this year and headed to their fifth bowl in that span. He was an assistant at Utah State the previous two years, going to bowls both times, including a school-record 11 wins in 2012 when he was offensive coordinato­r.

US falls to Argentina in FIBA World Cup qualifier, 80-63.

The win put Argentina (8-1) atop Group E qualifying in the Americas region, one game up on the U.S. (7-2) with three contests remaining for both teams. The top three teams in the division are assured of a spot in the World Cup, and the Americans can clinch with a win on Sunday at Uruguay. The Associated Press
