BABIES DIAGNOSED WITH SUPERBUG
State health authorities on Friday temporarily closed a maternity hospital in the capital after 13 babies born there recently were diagnosed with a drugresistant superbug.
The Health Ministry said the Giulesti Maternity Hospital in Bucharest would stop admissions after the newborns were diagnosed with antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The hospital said it had canceled dozens of cesarean section operations planned for next week and will be directing pregnant women needing the procedure to other public hospitals in the city.
The ministry said 17 babies from Giulesti had recently been admitted to the Grigore Alexandrescu children’s hospital.

Dallas police officer was indicted on murder charges Friday, nearly three months after she fatally shot an unarmed black neighbor whose apartment she said she entered by mistake, believing it to be her own.
Amber Guyger told fellow officers that she opened fire when Botham Jean appeared in the darkness.
Jean’s relatives joined Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson for the announcement of the charges. Jean, a 26-year-old native of the Caribbean island nation of St. Lucia, attended college in Arkansas and had been working in Dallas for accounting and consulting firm PwC.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office officials said the boy somehow acquired a package of gummies containing 100 mg of THC, the main mind-altering ingredient in cannabis, and gave it to six other seventh-graders during gym class on Thursday.
At least five of the students were transported to a hospital after experiencing stomach pain, dizziness and nausea, and Sheriff Grady Judd said one of them had “all but passed out.”

White House officials violated a federal law that prohibits public employees from conducting political activity in their official roles when they used their official Twitter accounts to send or display political messages supporting President Donald Trump, according to the federal agency that enforces the law.
The six employees — which included members of the press office — deleted their social media posts once they were told they had violated the Hatch Act, the Office of Special Counsel said Friday.
