Keep the electoral college

- Re: Richard Opler, Re: Lee Truitt, Michael J Sinnwell,

Congratulations to Douglas County for having the lowest (but existent) child poverty rate in the country, but as the article mentioned, poor people can’t get in here in the first place, it’s so expensive. Poverty is defined as $25,000 a year for a family of four. Ouch, think of trying to keep a roof over your head at that income on the Front Range.

Our president campaigned on helping the working class. What has been accomplished? A tax bill with most of the benefits going to corporations and the wealthy, with a huge budget deficit thrown in, and an effort to curtail food stamps, social security, and Medicare. This Hanukkah and Christmas season is a good time to check our priorities.

Support for the popular vote? Not me! I read the opinion of Glen T. Bailey on Saturday. He was proclaiming the need to rid ourselves of the dreaded Electoral College system.

I hope it never happens. It would be a disaster. Why? Because then the USA would have the same problems we have in this state and many other states where I have lived. The large metropolitan cities run the states. Denver and Boulder basically own the state and determine every outcome. The smart thing to do would be to implement an Electoral College for the state. That way all voices could be heard. What Denver and Boulder think is good for them does not always apply to all of the state.

Do you really want California and New York to tell everyone in the USA what to do and think?
