Pelosi for speaker?

- Re: Thomas M Holzfaster, Dennis Reuss,

With all due respect to Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and her many years of service as House minority leader, with all of the amazing strength and diversity of the young new leaders elected it is time to step aside and let the next generation move forward.

If there is to be a battleground , it must be in supporting the next generation of our leadership. Please show the grace that previous generations have failed to. Don’t let this be about you.

It would be a mistake for members of either political party to vote against the election of Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House of Representatives because of the experienced leadership that she will provide for the congressional

I am so sorry for the people who advocate the elimination of the Electoral College. When the Constitution was drawn up, the country was small but very spread out. Any intelligent candidate would only travel to the larger cities to meet and talk to the most citizens at that time.

In our present era, that still holds true to some extent. Now all the candidates would have to do is communicate to the people in the largest cities and suburbs. The people in small cities, towns and on the farms would never be promised anything or even thought of.

Under the current Electoral College system, approximately three-quarters of the states now have a voice in choosing our president. That is what a true Democratic Republic is. Elimination of the Electoral College should never occur. Send letters of 250 words or fewer to openforum@denverpost.com or 5990 Washington St., Denver, CO, 80216.
