Who is to blame for the migrant crisis?

- Re: Jim Malec, George H. Wayne Sr.,

Who is to blame for the “caravan” at our border? I would argue that it is President Donald Trump himself.

Instead of proposing, and continually arguing for a “wall,” Trump could and should have led the way with reasonable immigration proposals including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), chain migration, green cards, quotas, etc., which all need to be revised.

After almost two years in office, and with the Republican Party having the majority in the Senate and the House during that time, there is no excuse for not having brought about some reasonable and necessary changes by now.

The president has failed to lead and come up with the necessary changes that would be acceptable to his own party, let alone the Democrats in Congress.

Unfortunately, President Trump always seems to feel that he has to win. I am a fiscally conservative, moderate independent who feels that in politics you do not always have to win … compromise can bring about positive change.

I was surprised to read your November 26, 2018, article describing the “migrant crisis “on the Mexican border. It was disturbing to see migrants carrying foreign flags rushing our border and throwing rocks at border guards who are enforcing laws passed by our congress.

For weeks, CNN has been telling its viewers that there was no border crisis except the one created by President Donald Trump. What happened?

Maybe, there would be no crisis if we only accepted the views articulated by CNN and many on the left. They tell us that America is not a country, but a destination that belongs to everyone and therefore should have no borders or restrictions on the movements of migrants.

Migrants have been moving across the planet for thousands of years seeking resources and better economic opportunity. It’s part of the natural order.

Maybe, we shouldn’t have borders and, as John Lennon sang, “imagine there’s no countries.” Let’s also forget about private property. Sharing the wealth is a good idea.

Let’s go even further and have the United Nations pass a resolution against individual wealth exceeding, say, $500 million. There should be no billionaires.

Let’s stop being so selfish and let’s stop being so racist, xenophobic, homophobic and misogynist and tear down these walls.

After all, President Barack Obama said we didn’t build the businesses in this great country on our own. Oh, don’t let me forget, we also, don’t need a flag. All we need is love!
