Former Lake County undersheriff guilty of attempted incest, invasion of privacy.
A 5th Judicial District jury on Monday found former Lake County undersheriff Fernando Mendoza guilty of attempted aggravated incest and attempted invasion of privacy charges after a trial. The verdict comes nearly a year after Mendoza was arrested and accused of sexually harassing several dispatchers and engaging in sexual conduct with his stepdaughter.
Mendoza, 49, was convicted on charges of attempted aggravated incest, a Class 4 felony, and of misdemeanor attempted invasion of privacy for sexual gratification.
The jury acquitted Mendoza of multiple other charges, including attempted sexual exploitation of a child, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and embezzlement. He was fired in November 2017 after the allegations came to light.
According to an indictment, Mendoza started asking his stepdaughter in 2012 to send him nude photos of herself when she was either 14 or 15 years old. The indictment alleges that Mendoza also asked her to send him photos or videos of her engaged in sexual conduct with other people.

Trial postponed for man accused of killing son.
DURANGO» The trial of a Colorado man accused of killing his 13-year-old son has been pushed back, but a new date has not yet been set.
The Durango Herald reports a four-week trial for Mark Redwine was scheduled to begin in late February, but it will likely be moved to the summer as a judge is expected to rule on dozens of pretrial motions in the coming months.
Redwine appeared in court last week as attorneys argued motions to determine what evidence will be allowed at trial and where the trial will be held.
Redwine has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of his son Dylan.
Dylan disappeared in November 2012 while visiting his father in Vallecito. His remains were found near Redwine’s home.
