OLIVER, PAYER NAMED D-II ALL-AMERICANS

Colorado School of Mines wide receiver Brady Oliver and CSU-Pueblo linebacker Brandon Payer were named NCAA Division II first-team All-Americans on Wednesday by The Associated Press.

Mines running back Cameron Mayberry and Adams State wide receiver Chad Hovasse are on the second team.

Oliver (Elizabeth High School), Payer (Conifer) and Hovasse (Mesa Ridge) are in-state high school products and seniors, while Mayberry, a junior, hails from Stillwater, Okla.

Oliver, 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, had 73 catches for 1,339 yards (18.3 per catch) and 21 touchdowns this past season. He set Mines career records with 4,010 yards receiving and 59 TD catches — also a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record.

The 6-4, 230-pound Payer made 102 tackles in 2018, including two sacks, from his inside linebacker position for the ThunderWol­ves. He also forced three fumbles, recovered four fumbles and broke up four passes.

The 5-11, 215-pound Mayberry rushed 271 times for 1,615 yards (6.0 per carry) and 23 touchdowns and had 26 receptions for 342 yards and a TD for the Orediggers.

The 6-1, 215-pound Hovasse had 104 catches for 1,356 yards (13.0 per catch) and 19 touchdowns for the Grizzlies. He is Adams State’s career leader in receptions (268), yards receiving (3,964) and touchdown catches (44).

Ex-Kings executive cuts plea deal.

Kings top executive agreed to plead guilty to siphoning $13.4 million from the team to buy Southern California beachfront properties, court records showed.

Federal prosecutor­s in Sacramento simultaneo­usly filed felony fraud charges and a plea agreement signed by former chief revenue officer Jeffrey David admitting to forging the team president’s signature to divert sponsorshi­p payments to a bank account he controlled. Court records showed David agreed to relinquish the properties, which have been sold for $14.8 million and the team is expected to recoup the stolen funds.

David, 44, is expected to plead guilty to wire fraud and identity theft in January and faces at least two years in prison, court records show.

Rangers’ Shattenkir­k out 2-4 weeks.

Rangers said defenseman Kevin Shattenkir­k will be sidelined two to four weeks with a shoulder injury. Shattenkir­k left in the second period of Monday night’s game at Tampa Bay.

Hurricanes place Stall on IR.

N.C.» The Carolina Hurricanes RALEIGH, placed forward Jordan Staal on injured reserve with a concussion.

Staal has missed two games with the injury, and the move is retroactiv­e to Dec. 5. He has five goals and six assists in 27 games this season.

Nationals unload RHP Roark.

VEGAS» The Washington Nationals LAS traded right-handed pitcher Tanner Roark to the Cincinnati Reds for untested right-hander Tanner Rainey.

The 32-year-old Roark led the National League in losses last season, going 9-15 with a 4.34 ERA. He is 6454 in six years, all with Washington.

Rainey, 25, made his big-league debut last season, appearing in eight relief outsings for the Reds.

A source said all-star pitcher Charlie Morton and the Tampa Bay Rays have reached a $30 million, two-year deal.

Morton, 35, was a first-time all-star last season when he went 15-3 for Houston. He had a 3.13 ERA in a career-high 30 starts.

Red Sox pick up Hernandez.

Free-agent outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and the Boston Red Sox reached agreement on a minor-league contract.
