On Polis’ decision not to delay Denver teachers’ strike

- Re: Kate Tynan-ridgeway, Hank Urbanowicz,

Shocker: The Denver Post wanted the state to intervene in DPS-DCTA negotiations. Under the guise of “averting a strike,” The Post’s editorial then goes on to detail how reasonable and “innovative” the district’s proposals are.

What this very involved educator experienced and saw in more than 14 months of negotiations is anything but. Week after week, DPS bargaining fell short and was half-hearted. Now, when 97 percent of our union members vote to strike, we’re being treated seriously. We don’t need the state’s involvement to get a fair deal. Insulting! Wake up Denver Post!

I just don’t understand what liberals and the liberal Denver Post don’t get. The teachers’ union is one of the largest contributors to the Democratic electorate and any re-election of liberal democrats running for office. Gov. Jared Polis is not going to intervene in something that means he may have to take a position against the union.

With the government shutdown, all we read was the “suffering” of unemployed workers after one paycheck, even though they would be paid back any lost paycheck. In other words, they would be paid back to do nothing. How horrible.

Now the question is: Will The Post follow up with individual stories of how tough it is on striking teachers to be unemployed, get food stamps and government subsidies?

I would assume some Democrat somewhere will blame President Donald Trump for the teachers’ strike and their demands.
