One person was shot and transported to a hospital after an alleged parking dispute between neighbors in Arapahoe County on Sunday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies are investigating the shooting that occurred near Eaglecrest High School and Thunder Ridge Middle School, the sheriff’s office said.

A suspect was taken into custody, according to spokeswoman Deborah Sherman. Deputies arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly shooting another man, his 46-year-old neighbor. The suspect’s name has not yet been released.

Sherman said police dispatch received a call at 9:20 a.m. saying someone had been shot near the high school.

A few minutes later, 911 received another call from the suspect who said he had shot his neighbor after he had been attacked by him earlier in the day, according to Sherman.

The suspect then told police he was going home, so deputies responded to the school and the suspect’s home in the 5000 block of Rome Street. The two men lived across the street from one another, according to Sherman.

Initially, the sheriff’s office couldn’t get ahold of the suspect, Sherman said, but he later turned himself in.

Only the suspect had a gun on him, according to preliminary reports, Sherman said. The victim was transported to Parker hospital and is in unknown condition, she added.
