S A LTL A KE CIT Y was charged Wednesday with murder and kidnapping in the death of a Utah college student whose body was found in a wooded area with her arms bound behind her.

Prosecutor­s said Ayoola A. Ajayi, 31, was the last person Mackenzie Lueck communicat­ed with before she disappeare­d June 17.

She died of blunt force trauma to the head, and her body was found with her arms bound with zip ties and ropes.

A former sheriff’s T A LL A H A SSEE , FL A. deputy in the Panhandle was arrested Wednesday on charges that he routinely pulled over drivers for minor traffic infraction­s, planted drugs and arrested them on made-up drug charges, including one victim who lost custody of his daughter because of the arrest.

Former Jackson County Deputy Zachary Wester was arrested in Crawfordvi­lle, Fla., after a nearly year-long investigat­ion, according to a statement from the Florida Department of Law Enforcemen­t.

An arrest warrant detailing the case showed a pattern of Wester pulling drivers for minor offenses or because he said he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicles. He would then search the cars and plant methamphet­amine in the vehicles, investigat­ors said.

Puerto Rico’s former secretary of education and five other people were arrested Wednesday on charges of steering federal money to unqualifie­d, politicall­y connected contractor­s, federal officials said.

Federal officials said Wednesday morning that former Education Secretary Julia Keleher; former Puerto Rico Health Insurance Administra­tion chief Ángela Ávila-Marrero; businessme­n Fernando ScherrerCa­illet and Alberto VelázquezP­iñol; and education contractor­s Glenda E. Ponce-Mendoza and Mayra Ponce-Mendoza, who are sisters; were arrested by the FBI on 32 counts of fraud.

The alleged fraud involves $15.5 million of federal funding.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , D-N.Y., is facing two federal lawsuits for blocking Twitter users who were critical of her or her policies.

Republican congressio­nal candidate Joseph Saladino and former New York assemblyma­n Dov Hikind sued the freshman congresswo­man Tuesday, shortly after a New York appellate court upheld an earlier decision affirming that President Donald Trump violated the First Amendment for doing the same.
