» Jhonattan Vegas shot a 9-under 62 on Friday in the John Deere Classic to take a one-stroke lead into the weekend.

Off since missing the cuts in the Memorial and U.S. Open in June, the three-time PGA tour winner from Venezuela said he “found something really good” on the range Thursday after an opening 67.

Vegas had a 13-under 129 total at TPC Deere Run.

Andrew Landry was second after his second 65. He birdied the first three holes on his second nine, then played the next six in 1 over with a bogey on the par-4 sixth hole.

Defending champion Tony Romo leads celebrity golf event.

NEV.» Defending champion Tony Romo birdied six of his final 11 holes to take the first-round lead in the American Century Championsh­ip at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

The former Dallas quarterbac­k turned NFL analyst shot a 2-under 70 and scored 26 points in the celebrity tournament that uses the modified Stableford scoring system.

Sei Young Kim shoots 64 to take Marathon Classic lead.

Sei Young Kim shot a 7-under 64 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead over U.S. Women’s Open champion Jeongeun Lee6 in the Marathon Classic. Kim had four straight birdies on Nos. 3-6 and also birdied the par-4 12th and 15th holes and the par-5 18th to get to 11-under 131 at Highland Meadows Golf Club.

Packers profit drops 98 percent to $724,000.

WIS.» The Green Bay Packers reported a profit of just $724,000 in their latest fiscal year, which included their second straight season without a playoff appearance, a large contract extension for quarterbac­k Aaron Rodgers and change in head coach from Mike McCarthy to Matt LaFleur. Green Bay’s profit in the year ending March 31 was down 97.9 percent from $34.1 million in the year ending March 2018 and more than 99 percent from the record $75 million in the previous fiscal year.

Jets TE Herndon suspended 4 games.

NEW YORK

» Jets second-year tight end Chris Herndon was suspended without pay by the NFL on Friday for the first four regular-season games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

Herndon pleaded guilty in January to driving while intoxicate­d in New Jersey in June 2018. The incident occurred about a month after he was selected by the Jets in the fourth round of the NFL draft out of Miami.

Hassan breaks women’s mile world record.

MONACO» Sifan Hassan broke the long-standing women’s mile record in 4 minutes, 12.33 seconds at the Herculis Diamond League meeting on Friday.

The Dutchwoman fractional­ly beat the 4:12.56 set in 1996 by Svetlana Masterkova, a two-time Olympic champion that year in Atlanta.

Hassan knocked two seconds off her personal best and finished five seconds clear of Britain’s Laura Weightman.

Porzingis officially re-signed by Mavs without playing game.

The Dallas Mavericks have officially re-signed Kristaps Porzingis, the 7-foot-3 All-Star selection who still hasn’t played a game for them since being acquired in a big deal before the trade deadline last season.

Porzingis and the Mavericks agreed earlier this month on a $158 million, five-year maximum contract — the last season being a player option.

Porzingis, who turns 24 on Aug. 2, sat out all of last season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Feb 6, 2018, in what turned out to be his last game for the Knicks.
