Trump going green

- Re: H. Rene Ramirez, Mark Stone,

It is truly amazing that Donald Trump is lauding his “environmental record.” In reviewing the weather-related events during his presidency, there has been record heat throughout the country, most recently in Alaska, record rain in Washington, D.C., record flooding in the Midwest and record fires in California. Even though we cannot give Trump “credit” for these events, his actions speak loud and clear about his feelings toward the environment.

Hundreds of scientists from the EPA left the agency in response to Trump’s position on the environment. The U.S. withdrew from the Paris Climate Accord amid worldwide criticism. The environmental regulations on coal mining were significantly reduced. Thousands of acres of protected public land were opened to mining. Trump denies climate change, going against 99 percent of the scientists in the world. The list goes on and on.

It appears that Trump is anticipating much negativity on his environmental record, and as the presidential election campaigns heat up, he wants to be out in front by creating an alternate world. This presents a clear opportunity for all of us to be informed as to his complete disregard for environmental protection. To make a buck now, he is willing to trash our planet forever. His Environmental Destruction Agency has to be put out to pasture.

Although the subtitle to this article reads “Critics question claims while pointing to many regulatory rollbacks,” I remain concerned that someone only scanning the paper for the main headlines would get the wrong impression. The article does a nice job detailing the absurdity of Trump touting anything “green,” yet is the paper too timid to give the appropriate headline of “Trump falsely touts green record” to this otherwise excellent article? Certainly, the facts laid out in the story corroborate this more accurate headline.
