BENNET FOR PRESIDENT?
Reactions to George Will’s support
Re: “To defeat Trump, Dems should nominate Bennet,” July 14 commentary
It’s not often that I agree with conservative columnist George Will; however, I agree that Democrats should nominate U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet as their candidate for president. My take is that all the other Democratic candidates are pushing too far to the left. Many independent and Republican voters could be put off by an agenda that’s too progressive. Bennet has shown to be a good, steady representative of Colorado’s and the nation’s interests presenting a more moderate milieu, yet advancing the country forward, albeit more slowly. I believe Bennet would make a fine president and is more likely to be elected than those further left. Richard Everstine, Greenwood Village
I was so very pleased — and surprised — to read the endorsement by conservative Washington Post columnist George Will for Michael Bennet as the best Democrat to defeat Donald Trump. Will sites that Bennet believes “the capitalists have lost control of the Republican Party,” which is now controlled by Trump cultists. I hope this article will cause many voters to focus on the platforms and beliefs of Bennet as someone who can defeat Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Norma Wilson, Arvada
Last week you chose to elevate your Sunday “resident” right-wing Republican — highly regarded intellectual George Will — to the front page simply because he was writing about Sen. Bennet.
Will ostensibly is an antitrumper, but this supposedly informative puff piece on Bennet proves that he is more concerned with any real progressive not getting the nomination than beating Trump.
Will’s egregious glossing over the fact that Bennet became a multi-millionaire as a financial dealmaker for hard-core right-wing billionaire Philip Anschutz by saying that he “prospered working for a Denver investment firm” is the ultimate in not lying while hiding the pertinent facts.
Thankfully, Bennet has no more chance of winning the nomination than our other corporatist candidate, John Hickenlooper. Tim Flynn, Denver
