Buhai stretches lead to 3 shots at Women’s British Open.

ENGLAND» Ashleigh Buhai KEYNES, stretched her surprise lead at the Women’s British Open to three shots, shooting a bogey-free 5-under 67 in Friday’s second round.

Buhai, a 30-year-old South African who has never won on the LPGA Tour, birdied four of the final eight holes to post 12-under 132.

“I’m trying not to keep thinking it’s a major. It’s just another tournament,” said Buhai, whose best previous British Open finish was a tie for 30th in 2017.

Alone in second at 9 under was 20-year-old Hinako Shibuno, a rookie on the Japan LPGA Tour who is making her LPGA Tour and major championsh­ip debut.

Harvey Frommer, who wrote many sports books, has died.

Harvey Frommer, a prolific author who wrote mostly about sports, sometimes collaborat­ing with his subjects on their autobiogra­phies, has died. That word comes from one of his sons. Harvey Frommer wrote about the 1927 Yankees, the Red SoxYankees rivalry, Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey, and Shoeless Joe Jackson. He collaborat­ed on books with Nolan Ryan, Red Holzman and Tony Dorsett.

Former Wisconsin football player found not guilty of rape.

WIS.» A jury has acquitted former University of Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus on charges alleging he sexually assaulted two female students. Jurors delivered their verdict on Friday after deliberati­ng for just 30 minutes. Cephus was suspended from the football team last August and was expelled from the university earlier this year for violating its non-academic misconduct code. It wasn’t immediatel­y clear how the verdict would affect his status with the school and team.

Messi suspended from Argentina for 3 months for comments.

» Soccer body CONMEBOL suspended Lionel Messi from internatio­nal matches with Argentina for three months because of accusation­s of corruption he made at the latest Copa América.

The South American body also said Friday that it fined the superstar in $50,000 for his comments after Argentina’s 2-1 win against Chile in the third-place playoff of the tournament in July.

Messi and Argentina can still appeal the decision, which stops the striker from playing in four friendlies this year.

Ronaldo loses bid to dismiss or fully seal Vegas rape case.

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has lost a bid for dismissal or complete secrecy in a federal lawsuit by a Nevada woman who accuses him of raping her at a Las Vegas resort in 2009.

Attorney Larissa Drohobycze­r, representi­ng Ronaldo’s accuser, Kathryn Mayorga, said Friday she was satisfied with U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey’s ruling in Las Vegas.

Ronaldo’s attorney, Peter Christians­en, declined to comment.

Ronaldo’s attorneys say their client and Mayorga had consensual sex in June 2009. They deny it was rape.
