Rockies all-star outfielder David Dahl is heading to the 10-day injured list with a high right ankle sprain, a day after having to be carted off the field against the Giants. Dahl, who injured his foot in the sixth inning on Friday night at Coors Field, is hitting .301 with 15 homers and 61 RBIS.

An MRI on Saturday confirmed the injury, which happened as Dahl went to make a catch in center field.

“I ran after the ball, and it cut on me at the last second so I had to stop,” Dahl said. “My cleat got caught and I heard a pop. But I didn’t know if it was my knee, my ankle or my achilles. I was thinking the worst thing right there, and all the emotion kind of got to me, like a ‘No, not again’ kind of thing.”

It marks the second injured list stint in 2019 for Dahl, who was sidelined briefly with an oblique issue earlier in the season. Dahl also battled an array of freak injuries amid his rise to the minors, and acknowledged his frustration with the latest setback.

“It’s upsetting and I’m very sad to have this happen again, because it sucks,” Dahl said. “But I can’t sit around and pout for myself. I’ve got to look ahead to work hard to get back … I’m coming back this year. That’s my plan.”

For now, however, manager Bud Black said there’s no timetable for Dahl’s return. The outfielder’s right ankle is swollen and he’s unable to put any weight on his foot.

“These types of injuries vary in length of return,” Black said. “It’s going to be at least a couple weeks, and we’re hoping for a speedy recovery.”

In a corresponding move, the Rockies recalled Yonathan Daza from Triple-a Albuquerque. The 25-year-old has one hit in 18 atbats since making his debut April 9, but is tearing it up with the Isotopes while batting .364 in 89 games.

Black said Daza, Raimel Tapia and Garrett Hampson will split duties in center field while Dahl is sidelined, with Charlie Blackmon staying in right field and Ian Desmond remaining in left field. Black believes Daza “pressed a little bit” in his three previous stints with Colorado this season.

For his part, Daza — who’s made subtle adjustments to his swing in order to be better at hitting the inside pitch — knows he’ll have to be less wide-eyed and more disciplined in his latest bigleague opportunity.

“I’m trying to pull the ball a little bit more, because I love to hit the ball the other way and pitchers see that,” Daza said. “When you get to this level, guys are trying to get you out inside. I’ve practiced a lot on turning on that inside pitch. Good things hopefully take time, and I’m happy to be here again with a chance to contribute.”

Musgrave to Triple-a. After being designated for assignment by Colorado on July 31, left-handed reliever Harrison Musgrave cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-a on Saturday. Musgrave, 27, has a 3.60 ERA in 10 games in 2019 but hasn’t pitched for Colorado since May 3, when he was sidelined with a left elbow flexor strain. He has a 9.98 ERA in 13 appearances for the Isotopes this season.
