K ENT, WASH . record-extending 150th Funny Car victory Sunday in the NHRA Northwest Nationals.

The 70-year-old Force won for the first time since the Colorado event last year, beating Ron Capps in the final with a 3.971-second run at 320.58 mph in the Peak Auto Lighting Chevrolet.

“It’s been 25 races, since Denver last year,” Force said. “(Crew chief Brian) Corradi and Daniel Hood and (Tim) Fabrisi have had to put up with me all year, not happy with the way the car steered, how I sat in it, not happy with so many things. And then I got the monkey on my back and it drives you nuts. You go to bed every night, but the monkey taught me so much, that you need to focus on your car if you want to do good.”

Colangelo: No angst as USA Basketball enters World Cup camp.

Jordy Nelson is retiring as a member of the Green Bay Packers. The 34year-old played in Green Bay from 2008-2017, winning a Super Bowl with the Packers, before spending last season with the Oakland Raiders. Nelson had 550 receptions and 69 touchdown catches in his 10 seasons in Green Bay. He made the Pro Bowl in 2014, missed the 2015 season with a knee injury and was named the 2016 Comeback Player of the Year.

Former Raiders wide receiver Cliff Branch dead at age 71.

Cliff Branch, one of the Raiders’ career-leading receivers who won three Super Bowls, has died. He was 71. Police in Bullhead City, Arizona, say Branch was found dead in a hotel room Saturday. They say an initial investigat­ion revealed no foul play and that Branch died of natural causes. One of the game’s top deep threats during his 14 NFL seasons in Oakland and Los Angeles, Branch was an All-Pro three straight seasons and made four Pro Bowls.

Hamilton hunts down Verstappen to win Hungarian GP.

Peruvian surfers win gold at home Pan Am Games.

PERU» Peru’s Lucca Mesinas and Daniella Rosas won gold in their surfing finals at the Pan American Games and a potential ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Internatio­nal Surfing Associatio­n longboard world champion Benoit “Piccolo” Clemente, who is also from Peru, won the men’s longboard final.
