BEAR ATTACKS 13-YEAR-OLD AT CAMPGROUND

» Wildlife officials say they are looking for a bear that attacked a 13year-old boy at a Utah campground.

The state’s Division of Wildlife Resources said the teenager was sleeping at a campground along the Colorado River on Friday morning when a bear approached him and bit his ear and cheek.

The boy has been treated and released from a hospital.

Officials said they are still working to track down the bear. The bear will be euthanized once it is caught.

This is the second bear attack in Utah this summer. A bear was captured and killed in June after it scratched a boy camping in northern Utah.

The campground has been temporaril­y closed, and warning signs are posted throughout the area.

Man, 72, who exposed himself to teen girls gets 12 years in prison.

TY» A 72year-old JEFFERSON CO U N Longmont man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for exposing himself to nine teenage girls.

Fred Merrill Shattuck was sentenced Tuesday for his fifth felony conviction and 10th indecent exposure conviction, dating to 1995, according to the district attorney’s office.

In December 2017 and January 2018, the sheriff’s office took multiple complaints from teenagers, mostly 14- and 15-year-old girls, about Shattuck exposing himself to them in restaurant­s. Four incidents took place at two locations, a sandwich shop and a bagel shop near Chatfield High School, according to a news release.

Suspect accused of firing shots at Denver officer is arrested after chase.

Police arrested a 35-year-old man and a woman Thursday afternoon after shots were fired at a Denver officer, spurring a police chase that began in Lakewood and ended in unincorpor­ated Jefferson County, authoritie­s said.

Roger Reynolds was arrested at 15701 W. Colfax Ave., and the woman in a vehicle with him was arrested nearby at West 63rd Avenue and Julian Street, said Denver police spokesman Doug Schepman.

Reynolds was wanted by police on several warrants, including on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated motor vehicle theft and felony menacing, police said.

The suspect was wanted in connection to shots fired earlier in the day at the Motel 6 at 3050 W. 49th Ave., spokesman Sonny Jackson said.
