» The first order of business for USA Basketball on Friday night was thanking its fans, so Donovan Mitchell grabbed a microphone to deliver the pregame message. He got right to the point.

“We look forward to going out to China, representi­ng the USA, and winning the gold,” Mitchell said.

And now, the first step of getting ready for an unpreceden­ted third straight Basketball World Cup title is complete.

USA Basketball held its Blue-White game to wrap up a week of training camp in Las Vegas, and the Blue squad — the national team candidates, for the most part — had little trouble in beating the White squad composed mostly of young up-andcoming NBA players, 97-78. Jayson Tatum scored 17 points for the Blue, which got 14 from Kemba Walker and 12 from De’Aaron Fox.

The game marked the Vikings’ first test of their new offense directed by coordinato­r Kevin Stefanski and influenced by adviser Gary Kubiak. It looked effective for the lone series in which the first-team offense played.

Browns’ Callaway suspended 4 games by NFL for drug violation.

Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway has stepped out of bounds again. The NFL suspended Callaway four games without pay Friday for an unspecifie­d violation of the league’s policy and program on substance abuse. Callaway will sit out the first four regular-season games.

Painful calf will continue to keep Luck on Colts’ sideline.

The Indianapol­is Colts are taking no chances with Andrew Luck. Coach Frank Reich said Friday he expects the starting quarterbac­k to miss at least three more practices with a strained left calf, likely keeping him off the field until Wednesday, when the Cleveland Browns come to town for a joint practice.

» Mi Jung Hur surged into a two-shot lead Friday in the rain-delayed second round of the Ladies Scottish Open, getting the best of the draw and finishing in the early evening with a 9-under 62. Play was suspended in the early afternoon, delaying the start times for half of the field and giving them a huge advantage as the sun came out and the wind died.

» Topseeded Rafael Nadal rallied to reach the Rogers Cup semifinals Friday night, beating No. 7 Fabio Fognini of Italy 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. The winner last year in Toronto for his fourth title in the event, Nadal won his 380th ATP Masters 1000 match, a day after breaking a tie with Roger Federer for the tour record. Nadal has 82 singles victories, winning the French Open in June for his second title of the year.

Serena Williams advances to Rogers Cup semifinals.

» Serena Williams advanced to the Rogers Cup semifinals Friday night, beating soon-to-be-top-ranked Naomi Osaka of Japan 6-3, 6-4 at breezy at York University.
