Toni Morrison’s brilliance
Thank you for carrying Philip Kennicott’s story. Not only was it elegant, but it was a reminder to consult our wise ones instead of talking heads and politicos in such times of divisiveness and stupidity in our government folks, who I do my best to avoid hearing.
Toni Morrison is worth reading, over and over again. Her brilliance is a true testament to what can be best in America. to gain and maintain power for their party. To maximize effectiveness, people are classified so that some groups can be targeted as good members and others are categorized as the enemy. Labels (prejudices) are assigned to each such designated group.
To be effective, partisan politics requires leaders to promote and then exploit people’s prejudices. The tool used for this is propaganda. The unintended (or maybe intended) consequences of these actions are to forever divide the country. We the People are collateral damage.
Prejudice in America will always exist. We are a country made up of over 325 million human beings. The key is to recognize prejudice for what it is and to attack it at the source and never give it room to breathe. America will never be able minimize the deleterious effects of prejudice while the partisan process is working so hard to perfect it!
How fantastic: a week devoted to modernism in Denver architecture. Who knew? Thank you for writing about this and shining light on Denver’s mid-century modern architecture. I’m a huge fan. My family and I just finished building our new home, which we designed in an updated modern style, drawing inspiration from midcentury modernism and “pure geometry.” It is an homage to architectural shapes, clean lines and openness. I take a dance class at Lowell and Belleview, and I drive South Platte to get there so that I can see the architectural gems at Arapahoe Acres. I love this type of architecture, and I hope more of it is preserved in Denver. I’m glad for Adrian Kinney’s work in cataloging mid-century homes in the metro region. So cool!
