BENSON DRIVING AT “HIGH RATE” OF SPEED BEFORE FATAL CRASH

, they were still investigat­ing the weekend motorcycle crash that killed former Texas Longhorns running back and NFL player Cedric Benson and a female passenger.

According to police, witnesses said Benson was driving his BMW motorcycle fast through a curving, hilly section of the city Saturday night when he collided with a van that was attempting a left turn.

Police said a passenger in the van and a bystander attempted to help Benson, 36, and his passenger, Aamna Najam, 27. Both died at the scene.

Benson is the second-leading rusher in Texas history with 5,540 yards. He was drafted No. 4 overall by Chicago in 2005 and played eight seasons in the NFL with the Bears, the Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers.

Ex-Alabama QB Hurts named Oklahoma starter for opener.

The Golden State Warriors star guard and the school are entering a six-year partnershi­p. Howard officials say they plan to have women’s and men’s golf teams for the 2020-21 academic year.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt said he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Blatt said he was diagnosed with the condition which attacks the central nervous system “a few months ago” and has experience­d fatigue, weakness in his legs and balance problems.

The school reinstated Cephus, saying it had obtained informatio­n that wasn’t provided during a student conduct review. The football program said it was working through unspecifie­d eligibilit­y issues for the Georgia native.

Jim Hardy, oldest living USC and Rams player, dies at 96.

» Jim Hardy, the oldest LOS A NG E L E S living University of Southern California and Los Angeles Rams football player who was the MVP of the 1945 Rose Bowl, has died. He was 96.

The university said he died Aug. 16 of natural causes at his home in the desert city of La Quinta. Hardy played seven seasons in the NFL.
