Coors usher tells lesbians they cannot kiss

A Rockies employee instructed a lesbian couple that they weren’t allowed to kiss in the stands. The incident happened during Sunday’s game against the Marlins at Coors Field. That has since prompted an apology from the organization to the couple.

Per the Twitter account of Jaelyn Coates, she and her partner were celebrating their anniversary during Sunday’s game when the two shared what she described as a casual kiss. A Coors Field usher, whom Coates said is named Karen, told the couple they can’t kiss because the stadium prohibits strong displays of public affection.

Coates said the usher proceeded to “tell us that this is a ‘family park’ and that it’s also a Sunday, and because of these reasons, the stadium does not allow that kind of affection here.”

Sunday was also “Faith Day” at Coors Field, an annual Christian event hosted by the Rockies.

As Karen walked away from the couple, Coates said the usher told stadium security to “watch” them. Coates’ subsequent tweets about the incident prompted the Rockies to reach out to her and apologize, along with inviting her and her partner as guests to a future game.

“They’re going to follow up with me and my partner later to talk about what action they will take and how to foster education on why inclusion matters with staff,” Coates said.

The Rockies, as Coates pointed out, frequently have a “Kiss Cam” on their Jumbotron at Coors Field which features smooching couples.
