Jaylen Brown scored 20 points, Kemba Walker added 15 and the U.S. rolled past Japan 98-45 Thursday in the Group E finale. And now, the stakes get higher with the Americans set to face Greece — and NBA MVP Giannis Antetokoun­mpo — in a second-round opener on Saturday in Shenzhen, China.

Harrison Barnes scored 14 points while Joe Harris and Donovan Mitchell each had 10 for the Americans (3-0), while Parker’s Derrick White added eight points, three assists and three steals.

New Mexico’s Bob Davie won’t make the trip to Notre Dame.

A LB U Q U ERQ U E , N . M . coach Bob Davie won’t make the trip next week when the Lobos travel to face his former team, No. 8 Notre Dame. Davie said in a statement Thursday that he will be involved with the team next week but that run game coordinato­r Saga Tuitele will serve as acting head coach for the Sept. 14 game in South Bend. The 64-year-old Davie was rushed to an Albuquerqu­e hospital after New Mexico’s season-opening victory over Sam Houston State. The nature of his medical issue has not been disclosed.

Washington’s RFK Stadium to be demolished by 2021.

Local officials in Washington say RFK Stadium will be demolished by 2021. RFK is the former home of the NFL’s Washington Redskins, Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals and Senators, and Major League Soccer’s D.C. United. The city currently plans to transform the site into recreation­al and event space.

Big Air is coming to the home of the Braves.

» The Braves are bringing Big Air to SunTrust Park, making the announceme­nt on a 90-degree day in Atlanta. The highflying ski and snowboardi­ng event will be held Dec. 20-21 at SunTrust Park, bringing some of the top athletes from the United States and around the world to the home of the 1996 Summer Olympics. They are set to compete off a 15-story-tall tower that will be built in the center of the 41,000-seat baseball stadium.

Michigan State fined $4.5 million in Nassar case.

WASHINGTON» The Education Department fined Michigan State University $4.5 million for failing to respond to sexual assault complaints against Dr. Larry Nassar. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos made the announceme­nt Thursday, saying the university’s failure to act created a “sexually hostile environmen­t.”

Missouri high school sophomore dies after football practice.

» A high school football player MO . collapsed and died after practice in southwest Missouri on Wednesday. The Joplin school district said in a statement that emergency personnel responded around 5:30 p.m. to the Joplin High School gymnasium after sophomore Kadin Roberts-Day had a medical emergency. The team had been practicing indoors. The statement says Kadin was transporte­d to a hospital and died due to cardiac arrest. Kadin was a 6-foot-3-inch, 205pound offensive lineman.

Dustin Johnson has routine knee surgery, eyes fall return.

Trump presents Medal of Freedom to NBA’s West.

WASHINGTON» President Donald Trump continued his run of recognizin­g American sports greats with the nation’s highest civilian honor, awarding the Presidenti­al Medal of Freedom to pro basketball great Jerry West, formerly of the Los Angeles Lakers, during a White House ceremony.
