NAVY DISMISSES LEADERS OF SEAL TEAM

DIEGO» In a highly unusual SAN move, three senior leaders of a SEAL team were dismissed Friday because of a loss of confidence in their leadership skills only weeks after a unit in Iraq was sent home accused of sexual assault and the platoon chief of another unit was convicted for posing with a casualty.

Naval Special Warfare Command said Rear Adm. Collin Green relieved them because their leadership failures caused a breakdown of order and discipline within two units while deployed to combat zones.

U.S. will allow trophy hunter to import body of rare black rhino.

WASHINGTON» The Trump administra­tion says it will issue a permit to a Michigan trophy hunter to import the skin, skull and horns from a rare black rhinoceros he shot in Africa.

Documents show Chris D. Peyerk of Shelby Township applied last year for the permit required by the Fish and Wildlife Service to import animals protected under the Endangered Species Act. Peyerk paid $400,000 to an anti-poaching program to receive permission to hunt the male rhino bull inside a Namibian national park in May 2018.

The Internatio­nal Union for Conservati­on of Nature lists black rhinos as a critically endangered species, with about 5,500 remaining in the wild.

U.S. sets limits on money Cuban-Americans can send to family members in Cuba.

INGTON» The Trump administra­tion has unveiled new restrictio­ns limiting the amount of money Cuban-Americans can send to relatives on the island and prohibitin­g remittance­s to certain government officials and members of the Communist Party. The intent to make changes was announced months ago, but the impending publicatio­n of the new rules in the Federal Register means they will take effect Oct. 9.

Sheriff says country singer Kylie Rae Harris caused deadly crash.

TAOS» Authoritie­s say country singer Kylie Rae Harris caused a three-vehicle crash in New Mexico that left her and a 16-year-old girl dead.

Taos County Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe told the Taos News that investigat­ors believe Harris caused Wednesday’s crash and that speed appeared to be a contributi­ng factor when she clipped the back of a vehicle, sending her into oncoming traffic. She crashed into an SUV driven by Maria Elena Cruz.

“Poseidon Adventure” actress Lynley dies at 77.

Carol Lynley, a stage and screen actress who starred in the “The Poseidon Adventure” and appeared in numerous other films and television series, has died. She was 77.

Lynley’s daughter Jill Selsman said Friday her mother died in her sleep Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Lynley appeared in more than 100 films and television series, but her best-known role was as pop singer Nonnie Parry in 1972’s “The Poseidon Adventure.” — Denver Post wire services
