Fangio: “We have to do a better job of coaching” after first defeat

- By Ryan O’Halloran said: Fangio, on Sanders:

1. Red-zone woes

News: The Broncos went 1-of-4 in the red zone, settling for field goals instead of scoring touchdowns. Fangio said: “We have to do a better job of coaching. We have to do a better job of executing it. We had a chance there. We’ll work hard at it.”

quarterback Derek Carr wasn’t sacked, knocked down or pressured in 27 drop-backs.

Fangio “They were throwing it quick: that was pretty obvious.

“They did some chipping (blocks by skill position players), which every team in this league does against every defense.”

Emmanuel Sanders had five catches for 86 yards, including a 53-yard play and a 1-yard touchdown, in 57 snaps. But, Sanders said: “I felt like I let my teammates down. I feel like there were times in the game when I could have made certain plays, but I kept slipping on the (darn) grass.”

“He’s a guy, too, is fighting the fatigue part because he is not through his injury, (there is a) lack of practice time. He’s still rounding into football shape to play every play.” 4. Flacco’s debut

News: In his first start for the Broncos, quarterback Joe Flacco was 21-of-31 passing for 268 yards and one touchdown.

Fangio: “I thought he had some really nice throws, particularly down the field, and then some throws that were off a little bit or maybe a decision that was off a little bit.” Ja’Wuan James (knee) and receiver Tim Patrick (hand) were injured and did not return to Monday’s game. Inside linebacker Todd Davis (calf ) and cornerback Bryce Callahan (foot) were inactive. Citing the players having Tuesday morning off, Fangio said little about the Broncos’ health, although a league source said the belief is Patrick suffered a broken hand.

Fangio, on Yiadom: “We’ve got to give him some help. We gave him a good bit of help, but not all of the time. “
