BUST YIELDS DRUGS, GUNS, CASH, ARRESTS

Authoritie­s this week seized heroin, meth, opioids, weed, cocaine, mushrooms and an assortment of firearms — and arrested 10 people — from a criminal ring operating along the northern Front Range, a news release from the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force stated Friday.

The task force conducted an eight-month probe, dubbed Operation Malverde, into the criminal enterprise and executed search warrants across northern Colorado on Tuesday.

Authoritie­s seized nearly 38 pounds of methamphet­amine, 108 grams of heroin, 5 pounds of marijuana, 213 oxycodone and fentanyl pills, 11 grams of mushrooms, 6 grams of cocaine, 12 rifles and handguns and $13,000.

Those arrested in the operation include residents of Denver, Campion, Fort Collins, Loveland, Estes Park, Berthoud, Lakewood and Cheyenne. Together, they face more than 120 felony charges, including money laundering, conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, DUI and resisting a peace officer.

I-25 north of Denver to close overnight next week for paving, overhead sign installati­on.

Overhead sign installati­on will shut down segments of Interstate 25 north of Denver overnight starting the week of Sept. 15, as an effort to widen the roadway by adding express lanes moves forward.

The work zone is between 120th Avenue and the Northwest Parkway/E470 junction, and the shutdowns of I-25 will affect up to 2 miles of the highway at a time.

The closures will follow this schedule: full closure of I-25 north on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Southbound I-25 in that stretch will close during the same hours on Tuesday and on Sept. 22 and Sept. 23. There could be another closure of southbound I-25 on Sept. 24, if needed.

Detours will be provided. There also will be double lane closures in that area overnight through the week for paving.

Man convicted of fatally stabbing teen on Colfax sentenced to 40 years in prison.

A man who fatally stabbed a Denver teenager was sentenced Friday to 40 years behind bars, the Denver district attorney’s office announced.

Auviauntea Evans, 20, was sentenced for the murder of 17-year old Reese Grant-Cobb, which occurred outside Bourbon Grill, 571 E. Colfax Ave., on July 1, 2018. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the case on July 29, the DA’s office said in a news release.

Man arrested in Texas for investigat­ion of killing man, dumping body in Erie.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested in Texas for investigat­ion of murder in the death of a man whose body was dumped on an I-25 frontage road in Erie and covered with plastic bags.

Orlando Lujan was arrested in connection to the death of 39-year-old Gene David Cisneros, who had been fatally shot in Denver on Aug. 29, according to Denver District Court records.

Lujan also is being held for investigat­ion of motor vehicle theft. Lujan has an extensive criminal record, including a conviction for robbery, a Colorado Bureau of Investigat­ion background check showed.
