We need more compromise from our elected officials

- Re: Jim Malec, Maurice Skibba,

I wholeheartedly agree with the opening comment in this letter regarding “how differently people on both sides of the political spectrum look at a particular issue.”

It’s unfortunate that so many politicians and newspaper columnists are so myopic that they can only see their side of an issue. It’s fine to be passionate about an issue, but it’s important to recognize and accept that just as many people are very likely just as passionate about the opposite side of that issue.

Compromise is not a dirty word. We need more independents in office, and we need the moderates and independents that are in office to work towards compromises that will give some satisfaction to many of us rather than a continuation of the pointless virulent arguments that only serve to further the divide and impede any progress or improvement.

Trump’s border wall is a Band-Aid on a major problem. It does not address the cause of the problem — that the Central American governments are not addressing the needs of their people. Why else would so many people risk the perils and dangers of fleeing their countries? Building a wall will never solve this problem.

Also, diverting funds ($3.6 billion) approved for 127 military construction projects, domestic and overseas, to build Trump’s wall causes me a lot of heartburn. It is my belief that Trump should be impeached immediately before he does any more harm to our planet.
