WISCONSIN INTO TOP 10; CAL MAKES BIG MOVE TO NO. 15

Wisconsin moved into the top 10 for the first time this season, landing at No. 8 in The Associated Press college football poll after a weekend during which seven ranked teams lost.

The top of the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank remained mostly unchanged, with Clemson staying No. 1, followed by three Southeaste­rn Conference teams: No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 LSU. Ohio State edged past Oklahoma to No. 5.

Clemson received 55 first-place votes from the media panel. Alabama had six and Georgia received one.

UCLA rallies past No. 19 Washington St.

» Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Demetric Felton with 1:07 left in the game as winless UCLA overcame a 32-point secondhalf deficit and a record nine TD passes by Washington State’s Anthony Gordon and claimed a wild 67-63 victory over the No. 19-ranked Cougars late Saturday night.

Gordon was sacked and fumbled — the team’s sixth turnover of the game — on WSU’s last possession with about a minute remaining, and UCLA recovered and ran out the clock.

Jones disqualifi­ed at Richmond.

» The Joe Gibbs Racing , . team initially finished in the top four spots Saturday night in the NASCAR Cup series race at Richmond. Martin Truex Jr. took the checkered flag with Kyle Busch hanging on for second, followed by teammates Denny Hamlin and Erik Jones. Jones, however, was later disqualifi­ed when his Toyota failed post-race inspection for a rear wheel alignment issue, dropping him to 38th place and severely damaging his chances of advancing to the second playoff stage.

Newgarden wins championsh­ip, and Herta wins IndyCar finale.

. won his second championsh­ip in three years with a smooth drive in the IndyCar season finale, where he played it safe and watched rookie Colton Herta dominate the road course at Laguna Seca Raceway.

Newgarden didn’t get aggressive, settling in for an eighth-place finish to beat teammate Simon Pagenaud by 25 points in the championsh­ip race and give Roger Penske his 16th IndyCar title.

Muñoz wins Sanderson Farms in playoff for 1st PGA Tour title.

Colombia made a 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to force a playoff, and then beat Sungjae Im with a par on the first extra hole to win the Sanderson Farms Championsh­ip for his first PGA Tour victory.

Muñoz, who closed with a 2-under 70, made it two straight weeks for South American winners, following Joaquin Niemann at the Greenbrier.

Mediate rallies to win Sanford Internatio­nal.

» Rocco Mediate needed just about everything to go right for him to win the Sanford Internatio­nal, and it did.

Ken Duke had everything go wrong on the last hole that helped Mediate to his first victory on the PGA Tour Champions in three years.

Mediate birdied his last two holes for a 6-under 64 at Minnehaha Country Club. He won after Duke, tied for the lead going into the final hole, caught two nasty lies in the rough and made double bogey.

Sun advances to finals; Aces avoid eliminatio­n.

LONG BEACH , CALIF .

» Jasmine Thomas had 29 points and Courtney Williams added 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead Connecticu­t to a 78-56 win in Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals and give the Sun a sweep of the series.

Connecticu­t advances to the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2005, where it will play either Washington or Las Vegas. The Mystics have a 2-1 series lead over the Aces. Liz Cambage scored 28 points to lead the Aces to a victory over the Mystics in Game 3 of the semifinals.
