R OSEMONT , ILL . lineman Khalil Davis suspended for the game against Northweste­rn on Saturday for striking an Ohio State player in violation of the Big Ten’s sportsmans­hip policy.

The Big Ten announced the suspension Wednesday and also issued a public reprimand.

The conference said Davis struck an Ohio State player near the 9:18 mark of the first quarter last Saturday.Nopenaltyw­ascalled.

Big Ten policy says the conference “expects all contests involving a member institutio­n to be conducted without compromise to any fundamenta­l element of sportsmans­hip. Such fundamenta­l elements include integrity of the competitio­n, civility toward all, and respect, particular­ly toward opponents and officials.”

Nebraska coach Scott Frost said in a statement he supports the discipline.

, . backer Jeremy Banks issued an apology through the school after video was releases showing him cursing and saying that “where I’m from, we shoot at cops” during his arrest last month following a traffic stop.

Volunteers coach Jeremy Pruitt saidthatth­eteamhas“addressedt­he matter internally.” Pruitt added that “Jeremy’s comments and behavior were unacceptab­le.”

Banks was arrested Sept. 15 after a records check during a traffic stop just before 4 a.m. revealed he had an active warrant for failure to appear on an earlier charge of driving with a suspended license.

In video footage of the arrest released Tuesday, Banks at one point says, “where I’m from, we shoot at cops.” At another point, Banks says he should have run and tested “you all’s speed.” Knoxville television station WBIR first broadcast the footage of Banks’ arrest.

» Canadian SQUAMISH , BRITISH COL U MBI A skicross racer Mikayla Martin died Tuesday after a mountain bike accident in her hometown of Squamish.

The 22-year-old Martin, the winner of a world junior championsh­ip last year in Cardrona, New Zealand, was biking with a male friend on the Slhaney Trail system behind Stawamus Chief Provincial Park when she was injured, the Squamish RCMP, Squamish Search and Rescue and the B.C. Coroners Service said Wednesday in a joint statement. Martin was airlifted to a hospital.

AFA mascot Aurora dies.

A IR FORCE A C A DEM Y served as a mascot for the U.S. Air Force Academy for the past 23 years has died.

The academy announced Aurora’s death Wednesday, saying she was the longest-serving live mascot in the school’s 65-year history.

Aurora had recovered from injuries to both wings in 2018 during a prank abduction before the annual football game against the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

The Air Force Academy uses several falcons during home games, and Aurora attended most away games to greet fans. — The Associated Press
