Whether you’re looking for something spooky or just want to pick a pumpkin or two

The weather has finally cooled off and the leaves are turning, which means it’s time to explore Colorado’s many pumpkin patches and corn mazes. While most events are family- friendly, a few locations offer scares for older kids and adults, and many farms also offer the opportunit­y to pick- your- own pumpkins and fall produce.

Fall Festival at Anderson Farms Erie

Fall Festival: Your ticket at Anderson Farms includes a 25acre corn maze, jump pads, combine slide, farm animals, the wooden train, a barrel train, mine cars, pedal carts, tire mountain, fire pits and a wagon ride to the 25- acre pumpkin patch, where you’ll find 70 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds. Pumpkins priced between $ 2 and $ 12. Through Nov. 3. Fall festival hours: Sat. 9 a. m.- 11 p. m., Sun. 9 a. m.- 10 p. m., Mon.- Wed. 10 a. m.- 6 p. m., Thurs. 10 a. m.- 10 p. m., Fri. 10 a. m.- 11 p. m. New this year, a season pass grants unlimited access to most Fall Festival events ( excluding Terror in the Corn and the Zombie Paintball Hunt) for $ 48 for those age 4 and up.

Terror in the Corn or Zombie Paintball Hunt: Your ticket to each includes admission to the fall festival. Terror in the Corn is a 30- minute haunted hayride and ghost town attraction. Zombie Paintball Hunt is an interactiv­e, after- dark paintball experience with guests shooting “zombies” in a cornfield from a wagon. Through Nov. 2. Terror in the Corn/ Zombie Paintball Hunt hours Thurs. 7- 10 p. m., Fri.- Sat. 7- 11 p. m. Prices for Terror/ Zombie: $ 27 for each attraction, combo tickets to both, $ 49.

Bartels Farm pumpkin patch Fort Collins

Free admission includes the pumpkin patch, punkin’ chunkin’, farm animals, a kids’ mini straw maze, and seasonal decoration­s and more. Pumpkins and winter squash start at $ 1, straw bales for $ 4, Indian corn and corn stalk bundles for $ 4. Through Oct. 31. Hours:

Pumpkin Festival: Your ticket includes a 10- acre pumpkin patch, craft booths, photo booths, carnival games, a mini maze, food trucks, beer and wine vendors, antique tractor exhibit, live music and entertainm­ent, hayrides and more. Average pumpkin price is $ 8. Oct. 11- 13 Hours: 9 a. m.- 5 p. m. Fri.- Sun. Advance admission: $ 8 for adults, $ 7 for students, senior and military, $ 6 for children 3- 12. Door price is $ 6-$ 10, limited tickets available. Discounts for members. Kids 2 and under free.

Corn Maze: Through Oct. 27. Hours: Fri.- Sun. 10 a. m.- 6 p. m., last entry at 5 p. m. Prices: $ 14 for adults, $ 11 for children 3- 12, $ 13 for students, seniors and military. Discounts for members. Kids 2 and under free. ( Note: On Oct. 11- 13, between 9 a. m. and 5 p. m., you will need to buy a ticket to the Pumpkin Festival to get into the Corn Maze.)

After Dark Corn Maze:

Oct. 4- 27 Hours: Thurs. and Sun. 7- 10 p. m.; Fri.- Sat. 7- 11 p. m., last entry one hour before close. Prices: $ 14 for adults, $ 11 for children 3- 12, $ 13 for students, seniors and military. Discounts for members. Kids 2 and under free. Ticket includes finding your way through this non- haunted maze with a glow stick.

Dead Zone Scream Park: Oct. 4- 27. Hours: Thurs. and Sun. 7- 10 p. m.; Fri.- Sat. 7- 11 p. m. End times listed are last ticket sold. Prices: $ 28 ($ 38 Fast Pass) gets you into the Corn Stalkers Haunted Maze, After Dark Maze and rotating fear flicks. Recommende­d for ages 13 and up.

Pumpkin Nights

Brighton

More than 3,000 handcarved real and synthetic pumpkins are used to create seven “Pumpkin Lands” within Pumpkin Nights, an “interactiv­e Halloween experience” taking over the Adams County Fairground­s for 17 days. Start out with a walk through Pumpkin Passage, a tunnel made with 600 hand- carved jack- o’- lanterns, before journeying through seven Pumpkin Lands, including Forbidden Pumpkin City ( with a 40- foot pumpkin dragon), Monster Mash, the Great Pumpkin Hall and more. The family- friendly event, which also pops up in cities like Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, will include activities like corn hole, pumpkin bowling, bounce houses, food vendors and movie screenings. Oct. 17- Nov. 3; closed on Halloween. Hours: 5: 30- 10: 30 p. m. daily. Prices: $ 20 for ages 13- 59; $ 18 for ages 60 and up; $ 16 for ages 4- 12; 3 and under free. A family pack ( two adults and two kids) is $ 65. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
