Books Briefs “BAREFOOT CONTESSA” STAR WRITING MEMOIR

» Celadon Books N E WYO R K announced Wednesday that million-selling chef Ina Garten is working on a memoir, not yet titled. It’s tentativel­y scheduled for 2023.

Garten, longtime host of the Food Network’s “Barefoot Contessa,” has written such bestseller­s as “Barefoot Contessa Parties!” and “Barefoot in Paris.” A selftaught cook inspired in part by Julia Child, Garten said in a statement that she hoped her book would “inspire readers to find their own unique story.”

Garten, 71, was a budget analyst for the federal government before leaving in the late 1970s and purchasing a specialty food store called The Barefoot Contessa. Her first book, “The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook,” came out in 1999. All of her cookbooks have been released by Clarkson Potter, which has Garten cookbooks scheduled for 2020 and 2023.

Gates is working on “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster,” Doubleday announced Thursday. The Microsoft founder will outline his ideas for achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions, whether through local, national or global action. Gates said in a statement that he wanted to help “build the technologi­es, businesses, and industries to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.”

At the United Nations’ Climate Action Summit last month, Gates announced that his foundation was working with the World Bank and some European government­s to provide $790 million to help millions of the world’s small farmers adapt to climate change. The Gates foundation pledged $310 million of that.

“How to Avoid a Climate Disaster” is scheduled for June 2020.

Jim Carrey novel scheduled for next May.

The actor has written a novel called “Memoirs and Misinforma­tion,” Alfred A. Knopf announced Wednesday. Along with co-author Dana Vachon, Carrey will take on celebrity, acting, romance and some other subjects he’s familiar with. The publisher is calling the book a “fearless and semi-autobiogra­phical deconstruc­tion of persona.”

“Memoirs and Misinforma­tion” is scheduled for publicatio­n next May. Carrey, who plans a promotiona­l tour, is offering a semi-disclaimer: “None of this is real and all of it is true.”

Cambridge Analytica whistleblo­wer has book this week.

Christophe­r Wylie’s “Mindf( asterisk) ck: Cambridge Analytic a and the Plot to Break America” will be published Oct. 8, Random House announced Monday. Wylie is a former research director at Cambridge who alleged the company had illegally accessed data of millions of Facebook users that was used to support the election of Donald Trump. Cambridge was founded by such conservati­ve power brokers as billionair­e Robert Mercer and former White House aide Steve Bannon. Wylie’s allegation­s have led to investigat­ions and hearings in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

Random House is calling Wylie’s book “both exposé and dire warning” about how online informatio­n can be used to manipulate people.
