Book lovers sure to find deals at Whale of a Sale

-

Looking for good books at bargain prices — for yourself, family members and friends, or your school or group? Then you’ll want to visit Colorado’s largest book event — the Whale of a Used Book Sale, offered by the Jefferson County Library Foundation at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Oct. 17-20.

The sale offers more than 80,000 books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records and other items at prices as low as 50 cents. Admission is free.

“This event is always popular with book lovers from throughout Jefferson County and beyond,” said Jo Schantz, executive director of the Jefferson County Library Foundation. “Each year, our Whale of a Used Book Sales help us raise tens of thousands of dollars which in turn benefit the programs of Jefferson County Public Library that are offered free to the public.”

The sale launches 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, with a Friends-only Preview Night, where Friends members can shop before the sale opens to the public. On Friday, Oct. 18, Early Bird shoppers pay $10 to shop from 8-9 a.m.

The sale is open to all 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.

“These book sales are a great contribution to the library and the community,” said Donna Walker, JCPL executive director. “They allow us to keep library resources fresh, recycle books and materials responsibly, put books back in the hands of Jeffco residents, and receive Foundation support for library programs. It’s the best deal going.”

Half Price Day for Jeffco teachers and JCPL employees (with ID) is Oct. 19.

Bag Day is Oct. 20 — get a grocery bag of books from $6.

In addition, browse Bert’s Weathered and Treasured, a section of collectible, rare and highly desirable books priced individually.
