TRAIL RIDGE ROAD CLOSED THROUGH LONG WEEKEND

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK» Trail Ridge Road is expected to remain closed through the holiday weekend after 6 inches of snow fell Thursday on higher elevations.

The road closed Wednesday as park officials braced for the quick storm, which brought the season’s first snow and freezing temperatur­es to much of Colorado.

On Friday afternoon, park officials anticipate­d that the closure points on Trail Ridge Road will be Rainbow Curve on the east side and Milner Pass on the west side.

Former police officer pleads guilty to stealing thousands from department charity funds.

A former Aurora police officer has pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from two department charities, including a fund for orphans.

Roland Thomas Albert, 39, pleaded guilty Monday to theft between $20,000 and $100,000 before Arapahoe District Judge Ben Leutwyler, according to court records.

Prosecutor­s charged Albert with stealing about $80,000 from the Aurora Police Orphans Fund and a second charity, Brotherhoo­d of the Fallen, according to Denver’s CBS4. Albert had served as treasurer for both of the charity funds but resigned from the department in 2018 during a criminal investigat­ion.

Woman shot in road rage incident; shooter is at large.

THORNTON» A woman was shot Friday in a road rage incident and taken to a hospital, police said. The assailant is at large.

The shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. in the 10200 block of Colorado Boulevard, said Jesus Mendez, a police spokesman. Two drivers were involved in a road rage incident, Mendez said, and it escalated to a shooting.

“One driver pulled a handgun and shot the driver of the other vehicle,” Mendez said.

The assailant fled south on Colorado in a gray or silver Jeep Cherokee, Mendez said. The vehicle had Colorado license plate CWH-927.

Cold front breaks two Denver temperatur­e records.

The dramatic cold spell that hit Denver on Thursday set two record lows Thursday night and Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

The old Oct. 10 record of 17 degrees, set in 2009, fell as temps dipped to 13 before midnight Thursday. And Friday’s low of 9 degrees shattered the prior record of 22, set in 1946, the weather service said.

Police shoot, wound armed man during assault investigat­ion.

AURORA» Police shot and wounded an armed man at a residence Thursday after officers arrived to investigat­e an assault, police said.

About 11:30 p.m Thursday, police responded to the 1500 block of South Bahama Circle when the officers encountere­d the armed man, according to the department’s blog.

One officer shot the man. He was transporte­d to a hospital with unknown wounds, police said. Officers involved in the incident are on paid administra­tive leave, per protocol, during the investigat­ion. The officers were equipped with body cameras, and the footage is being reviewed.
