Be a wallflower no more!

Even if the only dancing you’ve ever done is in front of the bathroom mirror when your jam comes on, taking a dance lesson is the perfect way to get outside your comfort zone and flex your (creative) muscles. Try it for a fun date night or in place of your usual workout routine once a week.

There are so many studios and instructors across the Front Range that we couldn’t possibly include them all, but this list should provide you with a starting point and some inspiration for everything from Lindy Hop to country-western line dancing. You can also find dance groups and events on Meetup or at your city or community recreation center. And many studios offer free drop-in classes, so if you’re trying to dance on a budget, that’s a low-cost entry option.

Head to the Grizzly Rose for some of the best live country music around. If you’re watching other couples expertly move around the dance floor and you want to get in on the action, you’ll be happy to know the Grizzly offers an array of dance lessons ranging from line dances like the popular Cowboy Cha Cha to partner dances like the two-step. The venue regularly hosts free introductory classes, or you can sign up for one of the paid classes that meet once a week. And you don’t need to bring a partner to participate — the dance lessons are actually a great way to meet new people.

The Mercury Cafe is an eclectic space where you can watch live music, order dishes made from local, organic foods and learn how to dance, all in the same evening. The Merc, as it’s known, is super popular for swing dance (Lindy Hop, Jitterbug, Shim Sham, West Coast Swing and Charleston), but also offers lessons in tango and blues dancing. There are drop-in lessons for beginners, as well as more advanced and nuanced lessons for people who know the basics but want to improve specific skills.

Omni Ballroom, formerly Overstreet Dance Center, offers classes for everyone — adults, children, dancers with disabilities and anyone else who just wants to move to the music. There are group classes, private lessons, wedding dance prep sessions, social dances and parties at Omni, which offers instruction in more than a dozen styles.
