SUSPECT ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH FATAL DENVER STABBING

A 36-year-old man is being held on suspicion of fatally stabbing another man in Denver Saturday night.

Dominic Valdez is being held for investigat­ion of seconddegr­ee murder in connection with the stabbing, according to a statement from Denver police.

The incident happened in the 2100 block of South Xavier Street, according to police. Valdez is suspected of stabbing the man, who has not been identified, during a “disturbanc­e that escalated.”

The victim was taken to a hospital where he died. Police spokesman Jay Casillas said the suspect and victim were not strangers.

He was not immediatel­y able to provide additional details.

Soldier suspected in Fountain shooting arrested. A soldier stationed at Fort Carson is suspected of shooting another man in Fountain Saturday and then escaping with a 17-year-old girl, according to the Fountain Police Department. The soldier was arrested Sunday in Texas, according to Fountain police.

Stephen Cruz Sandoval, 21, was taken into custody in Borger, Texas, without incident and will be charged with attempted second-degree murder and related charges, according to a police statement.

The girl he was with, 17-yearold Keloe Roxie-Malia Tata, was recovered unharmed, according to police.

The shooting was reported at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday at 7055 Alegre Circle, according to Fountain police. The victim, an adult man, was shot multiple times and hospitaliz­ed with lifethreat­ening injuries. His identity has not been released, and police did not elaborate on how Sandoval came to be the primary suspect in the shooting or his connection to Keloe.
