POLICE: 1 DEAD, 17 WOUNDED IN CLEVELAND SHOOTING

CLEVELAND» At least one person was killed and 17 people were injured when gunfire erupted late Saturday following a fight at a party in Cleveland, police said.

A 48-year-old man was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds when police responded to an address on the city’s east side at about 11:30 p.m. Police said many other victims left the scene and began to arrive at various hospitals.

Police said they learned there had been a party there party attended by “multiple motorcycle clubs.” A fight broke out and some people were ejected from the party, but returned firing shots.

Police said the case has “multiple shooters” and remains under investigat­ion.

13-year-old dead, 5 injured in gunfire.

BALTIMORE» A 13-year-old boy was killed and four other children injured in a shooting as they left an event at a Maryland shopping center early Sunday morning, authoritie­s said.

Police Chief Melissa Hyatt said the injured include two 12-year-old boys, a 14-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, as well as a 19-year-old man. All were expected to survive their injuries.

Investigat­ors said the victims were approached by several suspects while leaving an event at the Triple Threat Elite Dance studio.

“An altercatio­n ensued and then multiple shots were fired toward the group,” Hyatt said.

Israel election challenger gets extra security after threats. JERUSALEM» Israel’s parliament on Sunday beefed up the security detail protecting Benny Gantz, the main electoral challenger to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, after deeming various death threats against Gantz to be credible.

The threats came in the wake of last week’s volatile and inconclusi­ve election.

Gantz revealed that a man tried to assault him Saturday evening as he arrived at a speaking engagement, and that Netanyahu supporters have been threatenin­g him online.

Police: Man killed sleeping couple, buried bodies in swamp.

HAINES CITY, FLA.» A man was arrested Saturday after he killed a married couple while they slept and enlisted his stepdaught­er to help bury the bodies in a swamp, authoritie­s said.

Sheriff Grady Judd said Raymond Cline, 33, and Crystal Ann Cline, 37, had not been seen since Feb. 21.

Investigat­ors went to the home of Amberlyn Nichols after she tried to sell Cline’s truck. Judd said Nichols admitted she and her boyfriend helped her stepfather hide the bodies.

Todd Jackson was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

26 Iraqis victims in Syria road accident. BAGHDAD» At least 26 Iraqis were among those killed in a Syrian highway accident last week, in which a fuel truck collided with passenger buses and other cars, Iraqi’s foreign ministry spokesman said Sunday.

Ahmad al-Sahhaf said at least 16 Iraqis were also injured in what he described as a “regretful” traffic accident, and not a militant attack.

Syrian state media quoted local officials saying at least 32 were killed in the accident and 77 were injured.
