Where to still celebrate around Denver

- Provided by Curio By Josie Sexton

Not sure how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, if at all? Join the club. While the parade and other large-scale events have been canceled because of concerns over coronavirus, smaller businesses are still hosting parties and promoting specials over the weekend. And many are counting on these sales.

For the Irish Snug’s 17th annual Capitol Hill Hooley on East Colfax, owner Frank McLoughlin says his party plans are changing day-to-day, but the event is still happening, albeit on a smaller scale.

As of press time, these seven Denver St. Patrick’s Day events are still taking place, but attendees should check with organizers and at the links provided for the latest updates.

A hooley

Bands, pipers and dancers will perform Saturday and Tuesday inside The Irish Snug (there won’t be a tent outside). And of course, there’s always traditional Irish fare to enjoy, like Irish potato nachos and chicken, mushroom and bacon boxty (Irish potato pancakes). facebook.com/IrishSnug/

A high tea

The Brown Palace’s Ship Tavern will offer food specials Saturday through Tuesday, like corned beef and cabbage, potato and white bean stew, and housemade soda bread alongside $12 specialty cocktails. Find Irish coffees, grasshoppers, moonshine martinis and more. Also at The Brown Palace, afternoon tea on Tuesday will consist of corned beef tea sandwiches and Irish cream cheesecake petit fours. opentable.com/afternoon-tea-atthe-brown-palace

A bar party

From Friday to Tuesday, Denver Central Market’s Curio Bar will serve coffees, rosés and old fashioneds, all made with Irish whiskey, for $7. The bar will sell cans of Guinness and pours of whiskey for $5, and you can get a Montucky Cold Snack and whiskey shot for just $5. denvercentralmarket.com

A brunch

On Saturday, Irish-themed brunch specials at Old Major will include corned beef hash with eggs for $16, Irish coffee for $7 and Jameson for $6. And if your brunch party comes dressed in green, you’ll get a free bottle of bubbles on the house. Come Tuesday, the LoHi restaurant will offer a

A burger

On Tuesday, the original Cherry Cricket is celebrating with live music, dancing and specials such as the Dubliner burger with corned beef, Irish white cheddar, potato chips and dijonaise piled on a pretzel roll. The kitchen will be serving from 11 a.m. to midnight. All ages are welcome, and there’s no cover to enter. Across town, Cherry Cricket Ballpark will be celebrating over the weekend as well. facebook.com/ events/246197749881219/

A pop-up

Tullamore Dew will hold a pop-up with its O’Everyone party at Union Station on Friday (1-8 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.-4 p.m.). The party welcomes “any and all to become Irish for the annual festive holiday.” Whiskey will be served, of course, and T-shirts will be personalized with your last name made Irish, by putting the “O’” in front of it. A food hall takeover

Expect drink specials Saturday through Tuesday at the LoHi food hall, Avanti. The bars will sell $6 Jameson shots, $8 Irish drop shots and $7 nitro stouts.
