CCSD board member puts experience to use

Anne Egan has seen the Cherry Creek School District function at many levels. Egan, who was sworn in as the Board of Education’s District A director in November, specifically moved to the district with her family so her four children could attend CCSD schools.

She is a former education policy adviser to Colorado Gov. Roy Romer and has served various roles in the district, including with parent-teacher groups and the Cherry Creek Community Legislative Network. Her experiences in education made running for a school board seat seem like a perfect fit,she said.

“It was important for me to give back to the district,” said Egan, who at one point had four kids in four CCSD schools. Each found their own path to excellence within the district, and each drew on resources within their classrooms to forge their own pathway of purpose, she said.

“The district has always done a great job. I want to continue conversations about mental health, diversity and inclusive excellence and innovation in education,” Egan said.

“Furthering the system of mental health support in our schools is a priority for me, as is continuing to build the innovation opportunities for all students in our district,” she said. “We are building such a great model for our students to discover their own pathways to excellence.”

“My kids were so incredibly prepared for college,” Egan added. “In the district, they all found places where they fit and education that worked for their needs. I want the same for every single one of our students.”

Even as the district undergoes fundamental changes in terms of enrollment, size and diversity, Egan wants to make sure that it continues to offer excellence tailored to each student’s interests. She said she will work with the rest of the board to make sure that every CCSD grad has the tools they need to meet the demands of the 21st century, whether that’s in the military, the college classroom or the workforce.

“A CCSD education is one that’s tailored to a student’s passions,” Egan said. “I love the people in the district, I love that our dedication to excellence has persisted for so long. I’m excited about continuing that commitment into the future.”
