Survey shows what’s behind crisis response

Human resources and business leaders are eager to learn how thei r peers are adapting to the fastchangi­ng environmen­t as organizati­ons face the COVID-19 crisis. To help bridge the informatio­n gap, Energage launched a brief survey to capture feedback about practices in response to the pandemic.

This summary includes the key takeaways from a national online survey of 170 human resources leaders. Among the questions and the findings:

Day-to-day procedures/ functions To what extent has your company changed its daytoday procedures/functions due to the coronaviru­s? 93% of companies changed day to-day operations in many ways, with almost half (44%) changing in most ways. Paid What time is the off company policy policy regarding paid time off?: 85% of organizati­ons offer or plan to offer a paid time off policy.

Business continuity plan Does your company have a business continuity plan?: 73% of companies have a business continuity plan. Only one-third of companies said they had a plan that includes pandemic scenarios. 27% said they were creating a plan now.

Impact on employee motivation Has th e response to the coronaviru­s situation had an impact on employee motivation?: 83% of companies felt the changes taken have had a strongly positive or positive impact o n employee motivation. 12% said the changes had a small negative impact or strong negative impac ton employee motivation.

Other findings

• Employee health and public health is the primary reason for changes. Secondary reasons include business interests, employee motivation, and customer concerns.

• Two of th e top methods of communicat­ion planned to be implemente­d going forward are text blasts and employee pulse surveys.
