The Denver Post

So many to thank

Re: “The need for newspapers,” April 1 letter to the editor

While I sit here in my dining room reading my Denver Post e-edition, I saw the letter by Jessica Beegle, “The need for newspapers,” and it occurred to me that she is spot on with her observation of the need for our daily newspapers, along with all of the other daily services that we all tend to take for granted, assuming they’ll just somehow, “be there.”

True, I am deeply grateful for all of The Denver Post journalists, editors, printer operators, distributors and website maintainers for everything they are continuing to do throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to keep their subscribers and those who search the newspaper boxes at stores and bus stops, etc., informed.

However, while I am thanking the dedicated heroes who are risking their own health working in the background to keep the nation’s baseline machinery chugging along, I want to include the employees and management of all the grocery, essential retailers, post offices, take-out food and beverage providers, delivery services, garbage pickup employees, janitorial services and without a doubt, most of all, the first responders, doctors, nurses, lab techs, etc., ad infinitum.

When America pulls through this devastating period, and we will, it will be because of the combined efforts of everyone involved at every level, including all of us, sitting in our homes, protecting each other and our families. Thank you, every single one of you!

Alfred Foster, Loveland
