Gov. Cuomo looking presidential to some

- Phil Weber, John W. Thomas, Myra Louise Bender,

If the Democrats want to have a chance of beating President Donald Trump, they need to look no further than the morning briefings being held by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He is precise, knowledgeable and thoroughly presidential in his presentations and Q&A.

The powers that be in the party have to somehow draft the governor of New York the same way they drafted FDR. Then he can’t say no.

Both the serious health and economic impacts from coronavirus have made several things about life in the United States abundantly clear.

When so many in the country are one month of lack of pay away from financial disaster, that is not an economy that works for everyone.

That includes the lack of affordable health care/prescription drug coverage. We can and should do better, going forward.

We also have a serious cultural issue with so many in society not believing the rules and norms that provide for a civilized society apply to them, in the name of “freedom.” With freedom comes the responsibility to play your part with appropriate consideration of your fellow citizens.

We absolutely need leadership at a national level that is proactive, compassionate, transparent, inclusive, competent in a crisis, factually consistent and heedful of the best science that experts have for us. We don’t have that now. I look at Andrew Cuomo dealing with the crisis in New York and that’s what I want for us as a nation.

As a woman, I would like to see former Vice President Joe Biden, the likely Democratic candidate for president, respectfully, courageously, and with all due respect for women, withdraw his recent commitment to choose a woman as his running mate.

At the time he made this commitment, he could not have known what was coming. May a woman be elected in the future. In place of this now, for the good of all, may Biden draft New York Governor Andrew Cuomo as his running mate.

New York needs Andrew Cuomo now, though the nation and the world need him more.
