DEPUTIES FATALLY SHOOT MAN, SAY HE HAD FLED, BRANDISHED GUN

Clear Creek County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man Saturday night after they say he fled police in Idaho Springs, set the inside of his vehicle on fire and brandished a gun, officials said.

Idaho Springs police attempted to pull over a silver Saturn for traffic-related reasons around 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Clear Creek County Undersheri­ff Bruce Snelling said in an email. The driver of the Saturn fled and the pursuit ultimately was called off.

Ten minutes later, Snelling said, Clear Creek deputies spotted the Saturn on Colorado 103 and began pursuing the vehicle. During the second pursuit, the suspect set the inside of the Saturn on fire, Snelling said.

After the vehicle finally was stopped in the 9500 block of Peaceful Valley Lane, southwest of Idaho Springs, the driver — the vehicle’s sole occupant — brandished a gun, Snelling said.

Two Clear Creek County deputies fired an unspecifie­d number of shots, killing the suspect, Snelling said. The deputies were uninjured.

Authoritie­s are not yet publicly identifyin­g the man who was killed or the two deputies, who are on administra­tive leave. The Colorado Bureau of Investigat­ion will conduct a review of the shooting, Snelling said.

Toddler injured in unintentio­nal shooting. A 3-year-old boy in Northglenn got a hold of a gun Saturday and unintentio­nally shot himself in the foot, according to Northglenn police.

The incident happened at about 7:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of Elmer Drive. The boy was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not lifeways threatenin­g, spokeswoma­n Renae Lehr said.

Police are investigat­ing how the boy got the gun.

Woman shot, killed in East Colfax neighborho­od. Police are searching for suspects after a woman was shot and killed Saturday in Denver’s East Colfax neighborho­od.

The shooting occurred in an alley near the 1400 block of North Verbena and North Valentia Streets, Denver police tweeted.

The adult woman, who has not been identified, was transporte­d to a hospital in critical condition; she died from her injuries, police said.

The investigat­ion into the circumstan­ces and any suspects is ongoing, police tweeted. Anyone with informatio­n is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.

Man stabbed to death. A man was stabbed to death in Denver’s Athmar Park neighborho­od Saturday.

The incident happened in the 900 block of South Federal Blvd, according to the Denver Police Department, which tweeted about the stabbing at 9:35 p.m.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died. No arrests had been made by Sunday morning, according to police.

Commerce City police investigat­ing suspicious death. Commerce City police are investigat­ing a suspicious death after a man’s body was discovered early Friday morning inside a home.

Neighbors found the body in a home in the 7000 block of Garden Lane and called police at about 5:30 a.m., according to a Friday news release.

The circumstan­ces in which the body was found appeared suspicious, police said. Detectives are on scene conducting an investigat­ion, officials said.

Police indicated there was no threat to the community.
