ELLIOTT ENDS BUSCH’S WIN STREAK, COLLECTS $100,000

CONCORD, N.C.» Chase Elliott snapped Kyle Busch’s seven-race Truck Series winning streak and collected a $100,000 bounty for beating NASCAR’s most successful truck driver Tuesday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Kevin Harvick announced before the race he would donate $50,000 to COVID-19 relief for any full-time

Cup driver who finished ahead of Busch. Marcus Lemonis, the CEO of Gander RV & Outdoors, which sponsors the Truck Series, agreed to match Harvick’s pledge, bringing the total to $100,000 for pandemic relief.

The win comes six days after

Busch wrecked Elliott in a Cup Series race at Darlington and two days after Elliott’s costly decision to pit late in the Coca-Cola 600, opening the door for Brad Keselowski to win.

Dolphins owner: There definitely will be an NFL season. MIAMI» Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross says he’s confident the NFL will play in 2020, with or without spectators.

“I think there definitely will be a football season this year,” Ross said Tuesday. “The real question is will there be fans in the stadiums?”

A’s to place scouts on furlough, end minor league pay.

The Oakland Athletics are placing their scouts and a significan­t number of other front office employees on furlough, suspending pay for minor leaguers and cutting the salaries of other executives as part of a cost-cutting move in response to the COVID19 pandemic. A’s owner John Fisher announced the moves Tuesday in a rare public statement on what he called a “tremendous­ly difficult day.”

DETROIT» The Detroit Pistons are beginning a search for a candidate who could become the team’s general manager, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Ed Stefanski, a senior advisor to owner Tom Gores, has been running basketball operations for the Pistons and will remain the team’s top basketball executive. Detroit is moving toward adding a general manager.

Idaho State athletes want transgende­r lawsuit tossed.

BOISE, IDAHO» Two female athletes at Idaho State want a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit challengin­g a state law banning transgende­r women from competing in women’s sports, the first such law in the nation. Madison Kenyon, 19, of Johnston, Colo., and Mary Marshall, 20, of Twin Falls, Idaho, run track and cross country at ISU. Each said they’ve lost to a transgende­r athlete from Montana and contend that transgende­r athletes are unfair competitio­n.

Networks, conference­s delay announcing early-season games.

NEW YORK» College football conference­s and television networks have agreed to hold off on announcing start times for early-season games. CBS Sports, ESPN, Fox Sports and their affiliated networks typically announce early game times for the FBS conference­s on June 1. The two sides decided to wait a few weeks for the 2020 season as sports like the NHL and NBA work toward returning to play.
