WESTMINSTE­R’S KUPCHO GETS FIRST PRO WIN AT OPEN

Westminste­r’s Jennifer Kupcho fired a 4-under par 68 to win the CoBank Colorado Women’s Open at the Green Valley Ranch on Friday. Kupcho beat No. 15 Carlota Ciganda of Pamplona, Spain, by three strokes to record her first profession­al victory.

Kupcho never relinquish­ed the lead after Ciganda closed the gap within one after the par-4 11th.

Kupcho won an NCAA title and the 2019 Augusta National Women’s Amateur just over one year ago.

Her 16-under par Friday broke the all-time Colorado Women’s Open scoring record by five strokes set in 2016 by Lauren Coughlin.

MLB players say teams “depriving America of baseball games.”

NEW YORK» Players accused teams of “depriving America of baseball games” as part of a money fight set off by the coronaviru­s pandemic and raised the possibilit­y baseball Commission­er Rob Manfred might push ahead with a shortened season over the union’s objection.

Bruce Meyer, the union’s chief negotiator, sent a letter to Deputy Commission­er Dan Halem threatenin­g that an attempt to play without an agreement could lead players to block any attempt to expand the playoffs and deny consent to neutralsit­e games in the postseason.

Jordan giving $100 million for racial equality, justice.

CHARLOTTE, N.C.» Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand are giving $100 million to organizati­ons dedicated to promoting racial equality and social justice.

Jordan and the Jordan Brand said money will be paid over 10 years with the goal of “ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education.”

Jordan, the 57-year-old former Chicago Bulls great, is the owner of the Charlotte Hornets. The Jordan Brand is a subsidiary of Nike, the shoe giant that earlier Friday committed $40 million over the next four years to support the black community.

NCAA hits Oklahoma St. with postseason ban in corruption case.

Oklahoma State has become the first school to be punished by the NCAA in the fallout from the federal corruption investigat­ion into college basketball. The school plans to fight — and likely won’t be the only one.

The Cowboys’ men’s basketball team was banned from the upcoming postseason among numerous penalties handed down by an NCAA infraction­s committee panel, which found that former assistant coach Lamont Evans accepted up to $22,000 in bribes intended to help steer athletes to certain financial advisers.

Kansas agrees to $2.55M settlement with ex-football coach.

LAWRENCE, KAN.» The University of Kansas reached a settlement with former football coach David Beaty, who had filed a lawsuit alleging athletic department officials were trying to circumvent terms of his contract. The school agreed to pay $2.55 million to end all litigation. The two sides had been in a legal battle since shortly after Kansas fired Beaty near the end of the 2018 season. His contract called for a $3 million buyout, but the school refused to pay it after discoverin­g potential NCAA infraction­s.
