BAILEY, SALAAM ON COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME BALLOT

Former Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey and former Colorado Heisman Trophy-winning running back Rashaan Salaam are among the names on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame.

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame on Tuesday unveiled the ballot, which includes 78 players and seven coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivisio­n. There are also 99 players and 33 coaches from divisional football.

Players who competed at Colorado schools: RB Eric Bieniemy (Colorado), DB William Campbell (Western Colorado), DB Chris Hudson (Colorado), RB Rashaan Salaam (Colorado), QB Bobby Saiz (Adams State)

Players who competed with the Broncos: CB Champ Bailey (Georgia), PK Jason Elam (Hawaii), WR Ed McCaffrey (Stanford), G Dan Neil (Texas), LB Al Wilson (Tennessee).

OSU coach Gundy apologizes for OAN T-shirt.

OKLAHOMA CITY» One day after Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard lashed out at coach Mike Gundy on social media for wearing a T-shirt promoting a farright news channel, Gundy apologized.

“Our players expressed their feelings as individual­s and as team members. They helped me see, through their eyes, how the T-shirt affected their hearts,” Gundy said. “Once I learned how that network felt about Black Lives Matter, I was disgusted and knew it was completely unacceptab­le to me.”

2021 Pro Bowl to be played at new Las Vegas stadium.

LAS VEGAS» The NFL announced Tuesday that the 2021 Pro Bowl will be played at the new Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Jan. 31 — one week before the Super Bowl in Tampa. Plans include a week-long celebratio­n of football, and will include NFL FLAG Championsh­ip games and a skills showdown.

Gov. Cuomo OKs no-fan U.S. Open tennis in New York. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave the go-ahead Tuesday for the U.S. Open tennis tournament to be held in his state starting in late August — but without spectators — as part of the reopening from shutdowns caused by COVID-19.

Earnhardt Jr. headlines NASCAR’s 2021 Hall of Fame class. Dale Earnhardt Jr. spent his whole life chasing meaningful rewards. NASCAR’s longtime fan favorite received the sport’s biggest honor Tuesday, being selected to join his father in the series’ Hall of Fame. Earnhardt will be inducted in Charlotte, N.C., along with the late Mike Stefanik and 87-year-old Red Farmer, who is planning to race on Talladega’s dirt track this weekend.

Cy Young winner McCormick dies

at age 81. CORNELIUS, N.C.» Longtime Giants pitcher Mike McCormick, who won the Cy Young Award in 1967, has died. The Giants say McCormick died Saturday at his home in North Carolina after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. McCormick played 16 years in the majors from 1956-71 with the Giants, Orioles, Senators, Yankees and Royals.

Sabres fire GM Botterill in series of cost-cutting moves.

BUFFALO, N.Y.» Buffalo Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula reversed course by firing general manager Jason Botterill on Tuesday as part of a drastic cost-cutting purge of front-office staff and scouts on a team preparing to sit idle for what could be the remainder of the calendar year. The Pegulas cited a lack of communicat­ion and philosophi­cal difference­s in announcing the decision to fire Botterill.

Reigning NFL MVP Jackson to appear on Madden 21 cover.

The EA Sports Madden cover release usually carries suspense, but Lamar Jackson let it slip a couple months ago he had been approached about appearing on this year’s cover. On Tuesday, EA Sports made it official: The Baltimore quarterbac­k will indeed be on the cover of “Madden NFL 21” when it is released in two months.
