An 8-year-old boy died Sunday from injuries sustained in a twovehicle traffic crash near Kit Carson on Friday that killed seven other people, according to Colorado State Patrol.

The boy, who was flown from the scene, died Sunday, while a 9year-old girl, five adults and one other person died in or shortly after the Friday crash, state patrol officials said.

The crash happened on Colorado 40 between Kit Carson and Hugo around 4:30 p.m. A white Ford pickup truck towing a boat attempted to pass a semitrailer when it collided head-on with an oncoming Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The Ford caught on fire after the crash. All of the people in both vehicles died.

The four who died in the Ford truck were identified Monday as Ren Juntan, 53, of Centennial; and driver Jian Zhong, 45, Cathy Zhong, 45, and Myoli Zhong, 9, all from Aurora.

Those in the Silverado who died were driver Sammy Henry, 59, from Liberal, Kan,; Joshua Henry, 36, from Sterling; Messiah Henry, age and hometown unknown; and Maki Henry, 8, hometown unknown.

Because of the circumstances of the crash, it was not clear whether those in the Ford truck were wearing seat belts, Trooper Josh Lewis said Monday. At least two in the Silverado were, he said, and it was not clear if the other two wore their seat belts.

Investigators have no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, Lewis said, but added that the final determination would be made by the coroner’s office.
