D-backs RHP Luke Weaver

(0-3, 12.19 ERA) at Rockies RHP Antonio Senzatela (3-0, 2.65 ERA) 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, Coors Field ATTRM

850 AM/94.1 FM Senzatela has solidified his standing as the Rockies’ No. 4 starter with three solid outings to begin the year. The 25-yearold right-hander in his fourth MLB season is one of just seven Rockies pitchers since 2000 to begin a season 3-0. Senzatela is holding opposing hitters to a .277 batting average but has struggled historically against the Diamondbacks (2-5, 5.83 ERA over 11 appearances). Weaver, 26, has dealt with command issues this season; evidenced by 16 hits allowed over 10 innings in his three appearances. Weaver threw only three innings in his last outing and it is unknown how deep into the game he will go on Wednesday. Weaver, in four career games against Colorado (three starts), is 1-1 with a 6.57 ERA.

Arizona is batting

.362 (21-58) with runners in scoring position over its last six games.

With the 2020 season nearly a third of the way in the books, a number of Colorado products are making noise in the big leagues again this year.

Through Monday’s games, 11 players with state ties have seen action, including a few household names and three MLB debuts. Ten of those players are pitchers and several of those veteran arms are putting up strong early-season showings for their respective clubs.

Marco Gonzales, who signed a four-year, $30 million deal with the Mariners in February, is 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA through three starts for the Mariners. Seattle is expecting him to continue to be its ace going forward, and a few outings into his big deal, it appears the former Rocky Mountain High School star who pitched the Lobos to four state titles is indeed on that track.

Here in Denver, Kyle Freeland is showing the makings of a comeback campaign after his 2019 season went off the rails.
