Player attendance

Did not practice: WR KJ Hamler (hamstring, sixth missed practice), WR Juwann Winfree (groin, sixth), CB Michael Ojemudia (quad, third), CB De’Vante Bausby (soft tissue, second), ILB Justin Strnad (wrist, second), S Alijah Holder (soft tissue, second), ILB Todd Davis (calf, fourth), OLB Malik Carney (illness, second), WR Tim Patrick (soft tissue, second), TE Austin Fort (knee, 10th) and NT Mike Purcell (calf, second). Coach Vic Fangio said there is a “good chance” that Patrick and Bausby return to practice Thursday and Purcell is “50-50” to practice.

Top play

During a 7-on-7 play, QB Drew Lock threw long down the left sideline and dropped a perfect pass over CB Bryce Callahan and into the hands of WR Jerry Jeudy.

Thumbs up

C Lloyd Cushenberry. The thirdround rookie has seen his playing time with the first-team offense increase this week. “That was the plan all the way, to give (Cushenberry, Austin Schlottmann and Patrick Morris) equal opportunities as we much as we could with the 1s so we’re always changing up who’s in there,” coach Vic Fangio said. “He has the opportunity, the license and the permit to go win the job, but he has to do it on the practice field.”

S Trey Marshall. A backup safety, Marshall packs a punch and showed his physicality on the last play of practice. WR Fred Brown caught a pass and was racing toward the end zone before Marshall hit him shoulder-first out of bounds.

Thumbs down

WR Jerry Jeudy. He had his first clunker of camp before finishing well. He dropped Lock’s pass on a go route and Lock’s pass in 7-on-7 although it was thrown slightly behind him.

No. 3 cornerback competition. A favorite hasn’t materialized among Isaac Yiadom, De’Vante Bausby and Davontae Harris. “I’m hoping to see that it’s so obvious that you guys can make the pick for us,” coach Vic Fangio said. “I don’t think that will happen, but I would like to see one guy surface above the rest and go grab the position instead of winning it by default.”

Odds and ends

• The Broncos practiced in full pads on Tuesday morning (51 plays of 11-on-11).

• Fangio said he changed practice a “little bit. … It was a training camp practice, just a little shorter than originally planned because we’re down to about 65 (healthy) guys working.”

• Ahead of Wednesday’s off day, Fangio said Practice No. 10 was “crisp. They were competing and a lot of good/not-over-the-top trash talking going on, which really brought the level of practice up. I was even tempted to make one of those drills live because I think they were ready for it, but I didn’t. It was a really, really good practice from an effort standpoint and a competition standpoint.”

• First period of 11-on-11: WR Jerry Jeudy dropped QB Drew Lock’s downfield pass. ILB Joe Jones broke up a QB Brett Rypien pass intended for TE Albert Okwuegbunam. ILB Alexander Johnson was unblocked on a run blitz and stuffed RB Phillip Lindsay.

• Second period of 11-on-11:

Jeudy’s second drop was on a Lock pass, part of a segment that included a false start penalty on RG Graham Glasgow, a timeout because of a personnel snafu on offense and a pass break-up by blitzing ILB Josey Jewell. During QB Jeff Driskel’s segment, RB Jeremy Cox dropped a pass, but WR DaeSean Hamilton beat CB

Duke Dawson to catch a long touchdown after initially juggling the pass.

• Third period of 11-on-11: S Justin Simmons broke up a Lock pass, but Jeudy caught a touchdown after a Lock scramble. TE Jake

Butt had catches from Lock and Driskel.

• Fourth period of 11-on-11: Hamilton made a leaping catch along the sideline and Jeudy snatched a pass over the middle from Lock. CB Davontae Harris broke up a Driskel pass over the middle.

• 7-on-7 highlights: Lock had four completions during his first segment and his two incompletions were pass breakups by Johnson and Dawson. Driskel’s first pass was a long corner route to WR Fred Brown, who got behind CB Essang Bassey. Johnson broke up a Driskel pass to the right flat. During the second period of 7-on-7, Lock threw a terrific pass to Jeudy and his final pass was dropped by WR Diontae Spencer. TE Troy Fumagalli beat ILB Justin Hollins to catch a pass from Driskel.

• Fangio on Fumagalli: “He’s in the mix. Troy’s a good receiver, knows how to run routes, can catch it — he always has to improve on his blocking a little bit, but he’s in the hunt.”

• Injured WR KJ Hamler paid close attention to team drills after doing side-field work. “He’s got to analyze and dive into this game from the mental aspect and picture himself out there on every play getting a mental rep and going through it and learning,” Fangio said. “He needs to do what Drew Lock did last year (when he was injured). He won’t be out as long as Drew was, but he needs to use this time he’s out to get better.”
