Shifting momentum: Valeri Nichushkin, the former Dallas Star, got the Avs on the board with his first playoff goal. And Colorado caught a break with two Dallas penalties at 19: 23 giving the Avs a 5- on- 3 opportunity. Cale Makar, who assisted on Nichushkin’s goal, got his own power- play goal to get the Avs within one.

Costly mistake: Colorado opened the third on the power play and seemed to be back on its game. A tripping penalty on Tyson Jost opened the door for Dallas’ Roope Hintz, who scored with two seconds remaining on the power play. Dallas scored again at 8: 02 when Francouz dished the puck off to Makar who misplayed it near the Colorado net and Denis Gurianov was there to capitalize.
